You can check to see if Dial-Up Networking has been installed on your computer
by opening the My Computer icon on your Desktop. If it has been set up, the Dial-Up Networking folder will be right there.
Set Up Dial-Up Networking
Go to Start> Settings> Control Panel and click on Add/Remove Programs. Choose the Windows Setup Tab and
double-click Communications to go to Dial-Up Networking. Click the box next to the Dial-Up Networking telephone to select it, then click Apply.
Turn Off Your Modem's Speaker
Go to Start> Settings> Control Panel and double-click on the Modems icon. Click the General tab on
Modem's property sheet. Select the appropriate modem (if there is only one, it will already be selected).
Click the Properties button, click the General tab on the new propeties sheet, and move the slider control all
the way over to the left-hand side. Then click the OK button on each property sheet.
Check Your Modem's Settings
From the Control Panel, double-click on the System icon. Then click on
the Device Manager tab and then double-click Modems. Select the modem that you want to see, then click on Properties.
This is the area that contains the port settings, connection preferences, and other vital information for connecting/communicating
with your modem.
Let Win98 Update Your Modem Driver
From the Control Panel, double-click the System icon. Click the Device Manager tab, then the View Devices By Type, then double-click Modems.
Select the modem that you want to see, then click on Properties. Select the Driver tab, then click Update Driver.
Windows will start a wizard that will look for a new driver--it will even check the Internet!
